North Toledo Bend State Park

On the eastern shore of one of the country's largest manmade reservoirs, clean and cool waters gently touch the edges of North Toledo Bend State Park. The Toledo Bend Reservoir provides visitors to the park with an opportunity for a wide variety of water-related activities in a pleasant environment. More than 900 acres of pine filled lands are available for camping, picnicking, hiking and relaxing in the heart of nature. Whether you're picnicking for an afternoon, camping overnight or roughing it in the woods for several days, North Toledo Bend is the perfect spot.

North Toledo Bend State Park is situated on a peninsula which extends into the reservoir at the mouth of Bayou San Miguel. The land consists of rolling uplands and interconnected ravines and valleys. The park site lies in a region of major lumbering activity, with a mixed pine and hardwood forest covering most of the park.

A spacious and attractive Visitor Center complex contributes to the park's year-round versatility and appeal. In the main building is a meeting room which can be reserved for group functions. Also within the complex is an Olympic size swimming pool and a bathhouse. A camping supply store and laundry complete the complex and provide visitors with all the necessities and extras that might be needed during a long or short stay in the park. Adjacent to the visitor center complex is the picnic area, where picnic sites, shelters and a restroom are nestled among the pines.

Water sports, of course, are an important part of the recreation opportunities available at North Toledo Bend. A boat launch area, featuring a spacious ramp, large parking lot, and fish cleaning station, provides access to the reservoir.

Wildernes Area - Site #3

Playground overlooks swimming area at Converse Bay Park Playground overlooks swimming area at Converse Bay Park

This is a purely wilderness area. The only "creature comfort" you'll find here is the "chair" in the picture to the right carved into a tree stump! The center picture shows where a small boat could be launched. There are three clearings such as depicted in the center picture above. This area is becoming popular with ATV enthusiasts and some trails have been carved through for their use. Approximately 8 miles of marked trails form a figure eight shape, so when you complete the trail you will finish where you started, thus, making it convenient for you to be back at your vehicle. These trails are marked with green dots to keep you on the trail paths. There are 12 challenging mud holes for the avid ATVer or you may choose to go around the mud holes. There is a billboard located at the entrance to these trails that post a map showing the actual trail layout.
